VS Code extension · bring your own key

Less tokens. More development.

Makayis — CodeBaker trims what a turn sends, then spends the rest on the code in the folder you have open. Bring a key from Claude, GPT, Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure. The key stays on this machine.

How a turn goes

Your key. A smaller prompt. The diff.

  1. 01

Continue with Google or GitHub from the sidebar. The account stays in this VS Code install. The extension does not ship a client secret.

  2. 02

    Bring your key

Claude, GPT, Google Cloud, AWS, or Azure. Makayis calls the provider with the key you paste. That key stays in this VS Code install.

  3. 03

    Ask in the folder

Chat in the sidebar. Send a code selection or terminal text. Build a plan, or let the agent edit the open project.

  4. 04

    Taste the diff

Touched files are listed for the turn. Open one native diff, open all of them, keep the batch, or revert it.

The kit

Spend the token on the edit.

Makayis — CodeBaker is a VS Code agent that keeps the prompt lean, then lets you review what it wrote. Your key, your model, your folder.

01

Less tokens, more code

Older chat is summarized before the next call. A savings report shows how much history was left out. Daily, weekly, and monthly caps keep the bill where you set it. Zero means no cap.

  • History trimmed
  • Savings report
  • Spend caps

02

Sidebar chat

Start a new chat, cancel a running turn, or summarize a long thread when the context gets heavy.

03

Plans

Build a plan for the work, then reopen it from the command palette when you come back.

04

Editor context

Highlight code and choose Add to Chat. A terminal selection takes the same path into the thread.

05

Review the turn

The tokens you keep still land in the file. Open a native diff, open every diff, keep all, or revert all.

Less tokens

Same work. A smaller prompt.

Drag the mix. This receipt uses the extension’s default Gemini rates so you can see a day, a week, and a month. A Claude, GPT, AWS, or Azure key bills that provider instead. Prices in Settings can be changed.

Flash defaults: $0.15 / 1M prompt, $0.60 / 1M completion. Pro defaults: $1.25 / 1M prompt, $10 / 1M completion. Seven-day and 30-day figures are the daily estimate multiplied.

Bring your own key

Your key. Their model.

Paste a key you already pay for. Claude, GPT, Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure are built in. A custom model id can sit beside the catalog. The credential stays on this machine.

Gemini

Google

  • Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview

  • GPT-4o

Connect ChatGPT or an OpenAI API key from the sidebar after sign-in.

Claude

Anthropic

Azure OpenAI

  • Your endpoint
  • GPT catalog

Point Makayis at an Azure OpenAI endpoint and key. The model list follows the GPT catalog.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is Makayis — CodeBaker?

A VS Code extension for fewer tokens and more development. It trims chat history, then plans and edits the open folder. You bring the key. You keep or revert the diff.

Which VS Code versions can run it?

VS Code 1.85 or newer, on the machine where you open the extension.

Where is the account stored?

In the local VS Code install. Sign-up is Continue with Google or Continue with GitHub. The extension does not send a client secret.

Which keys can I bring?

Claude, GPT, Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure. The key stays local in this VS Code install. Built-in catalogs cover Gemini, GPT, Claude, Azure OpenAI, and Amazon Bedrock. A custom model id can be added beside them.

What happens to edits?

The agent writes into the project and lists the files for the current turn. You can open a native diff, open every diff, keep all changes, or revert all changes.

How do spend caps work?

Settings hold an estimated daily, weekly, and monthly cap in USD. A value of 0 means that window has no cap. Per-million token prices are configurable. The receipt on this page uses the default Flash and Pro rates.

Can I send selected code or terminal text?

Yes. Highlight code and choose Add to Chat, or use the same action on a terminal selection.

Why does sign-in ask for a client id?

Public Google and GitHub client ids belong in Settings before you publish. Do not put a client secret in Makayis. Email sign-up is not part of this version.
